“The recent surge of artificial intelligence use in the legal sector cannot be ignored and as trainees at Anthony Collins, we are encouraged to question how the firm’s processes and procedures can be carried out more efficiently. This is further reaffirmed during our training, as the SRA’s practice skills standards for trainee solicitors include the requirement to adapt your practice to address developments in the delivery of legal services. As AI and legal technology quickly begin to reshape the legal profession, we as junior lawyers must look to consider how we can utilise legal technology in our work.

In the final seat of my training contract, my team were instructed on a refinancing exercise that included a thorough due diligence review of over 2,900 individual property records at the Land Registry, covering over 7,000 properties. Faced with such an immense task in short timescales, I volunteered to explore the possibility of using AI to assist with the review by reaching out to the ACcelerate team. Within two weeks of contacting ACcelerate, we had multiple in-depth discussions so that the team could understand the task and the outcome that we were trying to achieve. We explored a number of possibilities and eventually identified a solution where we could utilise Artificial Intelligence in the review. As a result, we were able to re-shape the delivery of the work which meant substantial time and cost reductions for the client. This also enabled us, as a team, to focus on other elements of the overall transaction, to ensure that the work would be delivered in the timescales set by the client.

The ACcelerate team are always available to help anyone in the firm, both fee earners and support teams, in utilising technology, re-imagining the delivery of legal work and always striving to find solutions to make things better. As trainees, we are able to utilise their support as much as we would like and if you have a particular interest in legal technology or innovation, you can aim to build this into your training experience at Anthony Collins and further into your career as a solicitor.”
